Safiya handed wooden claws to each of the owlets in her care and placed a quick-detatch wooden case over her DHR battleclaws. "Right. Kyrie go with Tally, Amal go with Adenah, Flare go with Petey, and Forester go with Purity. Tytona, you're with me." The owlets paired up and began sparring. Safiya had intended to go easy on Tytona, but the little Tyto Alba was doing quite well anyway. She smiled. The owlets were progressing well.

Thalia
Thalia strutted down the corridor, nodding as two guards nodded, their red eyes glistening from beyond their metallic masks. She arrived at an opening and peered in.
"Hello, Safiya. How are the owlets coming?" she smiled, watching as an owlet struggled to affix the wooden battleclaws to his talons. She churred softly.
"Are there any particularly promising ones you wish to share with me?"

Safiya inclined her head. She gestured at the little tyto alba in fromnt of her. "Tytona is so good I barely need to go easy on her. She also has a clever habit of extending one hinge of her claws while fighting, and the other just before she strikes." The little owlet looked delighted.

Thalia
Thalia grinned, her heart thrumming gently in her chest. "Good." she said as she inspected the owlet. "Very good indeed."
"Safyah, how would you and all your owlets like to come on a raiding party with me? I'm sure you could find some valuable training lessons in a little trip to Tyto forest."

The owlets chattered excitedly and Safiya smiled. "I accept. I haven't been to my home kingdom for so long..." The owls detatched their wooden claws and Safiya performed the flicking motion required to remove the case on her claws. Slinging a large fox-hide egg cask over her back, she beat her wings and lifted off. The owlets giggled as they followed her.

Thalia
Thalia, slightly embarrassed, struggled to climb into the air despite her powerful wing beats. Flying had never been her strong suit. She managed to lift a good distance of the ground, and now hovered, propelled by her somewhat struggled and frantic wing strokes.
The group departed from the canyons, the familiar rock walls and corridors that snaked through the rock gave way to a plummeting canyon. She felt her gizzard tremor at the thought of going yeep over such a deadly crevice.
"Alright children, remember for this trip, simply watch and learn. In a few moons we will return and you will be trained enough to actually fight owls and capture owlets on your own." she called back to the group.

The owlets all answered at different times and Safiya smiled, drawing close to Kyrie, an Tasmanian Masked Owl who had always reminded her of her own owlet, long dead, Tia. Safiya let one tear fall in memory, then hardened up. An owlet spiralled a little out of control and brushed Safiya's seck lightly. "Glaux, Petey, don't give me the creelies!" The owlet giggled and sped off with his friends. Safiya descended into Tyto.

Thalia folded her wings and dove down after Safiya only to spread her wings just before her wings caressed the trees below and veer upward. That was one of her more skilled maneuvers in flight.
"We shall split the group. You take your pick of owlets you wish to bring with you and I will watch over the rest."

"I'll take Kyrie, Tytona, Purity and Flare. Oh, and Adenah." The five owlets followed their teacher as she swooped toward the hollows. The whispering hiss of a nest maid reassuring an owl hit her uneven ear slits. She silently peeked in to see one Sooty owlet and a rosy serpent. She then let out a shree and shot into the hollow. She threw the nest-maid away where it just managed to snare a branch on another tree. Safiya gripped the Sooty and soared away as the nest-maid hollered for help.

Thalia
Thalia let out a satisfied churr at the mortified screams of her victims. She approached a tall fir tree and peered in, only to find three unattended eggs. "Jackpot!" she hollered and a few of her owlets came to assist her in carrying the eggs.
"Now don't drop them, in each of these eggs lies the future of the Pure Ones." she said, nestling one of the round eggs against her breast feathers. The owlets giggled with each other in glee as they inspected the eggs in their talons.
Thalia returned to her cluster of students clutching a Grass owl that wasn't much younger then they were, he whimpered and squirmed in Thalia's grip. "It's okay." said one of the young Barn owls to him reassuringly. "They take really great care of his and love all of us - it is like one big happy family!"
At this, the Grass owl seemed to relax and nodded. "Tell me more!" he piped.

Katara was soaring through the air, dancing through the thermals when she heard the shree of another owl. Curious, she swooped down to investigate, finding none other then the High Tytoness herself. She folded in her wings and plummeted towards the hollow, hearing the gasps and whispers from the recruits with Thalia. She landed gracefully beside the High Tytoness, bowing her head.
"Tytoness," she greeted, then straightened up to see the day's catch. She saw a few eggs and a small owlet within Thalia's grasp. "Would you like some help with him?" she asked, gesturing to the owlet. She knew that flying had never been Thalia's strong point, and wished her High Tytoness's reputation to say untarnished to the owlets.
She nodded a greeting to Safiya, who also had found an egg. Katara watched the trainer urge the recruits forward, looking to see if any showed any promise. "Are there any recruits that seem to show promise?" she asked, assessing each owlet. She opened her beak and in her velvety voice asked the recruits...
"Do any of you think you have what it takes to be a Pure One?"

Safiya came back as the owlets chattered out an answer. She held within her clawed talons a squirming Tyto Alba. In her egg cask were two Tyto Alba eggs.

Katara saw the trainer struggling with the Tyto Alba owlet. "Do you need a talon?" she asked, her onyx eyes glittering. He pure white feathers ruffled in the breeze slightly and her talons briefly dug into the ground.

"I'm good. He's got his wing in a bad spot, that's all." One of the owlets let out a shriek of terror. Safiya turned and saw a huge female Tyto Alba. "Racdrops!" Safiya swore. They'd managed to snatch the owlet of one of the few families in Tyto who used Battle Claws. Safiya threw the owlet high and caught the flightless raptor in the egg cask. She slammed the lid shut and turned to her attacker. "Hi-yiiiiiii!" Safiya shrieked in the battle scream of a Barn Owl, and slashed with the glinting silver claws on her talons.

Katara caught the egg cask and swept it into her own talons. She pushed the Pure One's recruits out the exit of the hollow, the eggs in the cask safely hidden. The Barn Owl seemed not to notice her taking the egg cask, and she flew into the air. The wind called out to her, caressing her creamy white feathers. She smiled, despite her comrade within the hollow, fighting the distraught mother. Within the air, she felt the hint of a storm nearby. Her gizzard had sang out to the storm, pulling her closer despite herself. She reluctantly soared back to the head of the Pure Ones, then flew beside Thalia.
"We got the eggs and the owlet Tytoness."
