Thalia nodded, attempting to mask her struggle at flight. "Good. I have no doubt that Safiya will be thorough with her victim. Fall back." Thalia veered away, her cluster of owlets at her flank.

Katara dutifully followed, slowing her flight so it matched her Tytoness's speed. Her gizzard urged her to soar, to soar high, high into the air and leave the others behind. Katara fought the impulse and savagely forced the feeling down, being the always dutiful and loyal Supreme Commander she was. Katara wondered how long Safiya would take this time, as Safiya liked to draw out her kills. Katara mused for a while, then said
"I wonder when she'll be joining us."

A quick slash took a wing and the Tyto Alba fell from the sky, making a horrible noise. Safiya landed squarely on the owl's chest. This owl, although a tyto, had forsaken her purity. She would die. Safiya locked back all but one of her claws. She cocked her head and extended the talon. She carved the word 'impure' on the owl's facia disk which was now running with red. She then slashed open the owl's chest and almost gently pierced the heart. The owl died staring into Safiya's eyes, which were unnaturally hard, the look Safiya got when she killed. Disdainfully, she wiped the blood from her claws, soaked the tip of her wings into the wound and took flight, the wet scarlet primaries catching the moon.

Thalia churred. "I'm sure she will in due time." Although the High Tytoness was well acquainted with the often disgusting procedures that some soldiers took to brand the slaughter of the impure, she couldn't help but avert her eyes from the horrific scene that scrawled out before.
She tried not to watch as Safiya carved a single word on the face of her victim and slashed the barn owl open, taking her talons to her heart. Thalia excused herself quietly from the group and circled down to the trees below. She yarped a few pellets to clear her unsettled stomach and returned to the group.

Safiya looked kind of unsettled herself when she rejoined the group. A fierce war was being fought in her gizzard. It was like there were two owls in the one body. One was clever, fast and friendly, the other was ruthless and deadly. She swallowed down a pellet and checked the owlet, wo had heard the noises of his mother and fainted.

Katara watched the trainer preform her gruesome ritual for the kill. Though Katara knew in her gizzard that she couldn't do anything to change Safiya's disturbing rituals, it still made her feel like she should do something. "Safiya," she started, then stopped abruptly. "Actually, never mind."
Katara flew back to her Tytoness's side, careful not to fly ahead. "Tytoness, may I take the evening?" she asked.
"I need some alone-time."

Safiya rejoined the owls above and showed the fine tyto owlet to her commander. She ignored the fact that there was still a little blood on her claws, despite the wiping. Suddenly it all came full circle and she realised what she'd done. Sure, the owl needed to die, but the way she did it? She yarped several consecutive pellets all over the owlet in her grip.

Thalia swooped in, watching in confusion and disgust as Safiya yarped several pellets at the little owlet, whom stood in her grip with a traumatized look. Before Thalia had time to pause and thing of what to do, she had grabbed the owlet from her grip and took her talons to Safiya's face rather forcefully, leaving three scratches where her talons had smacked her.
"Get a hold of yourself!" she barked, and turned to the owlet. "Are you alright, dear?" The owlet was dazed and shuddering, but she nodded slightly and gulped a weak "Y-yes ma'am."

(yep. rp the owlet.)
Safiya gasped for air and nearly fell from the sky. Not because she was grossed out, but because for the first time in her life Thalia had reprimanded her. She wheezed in anther breath and hid her face, going to snatch another owlet.

(I'll do her bio this weekend!)
Asmira, the little owlet which had been captured, nodded slowly at the beautiful owl before her. She had seen the other owl, the one with the bloody feathers, kill her mother. The pellets had passed over her, but the image of her mother with the word 'impure' scratched into her face was prominent. Asmira shook her head slowly to clear it, then looked at the other owls.
There were a few other owlets, older then her, standing around in battle-claws and holding egg-cases. Another fully grown owl stood next to the owl who had just talked to her, loyally standing at her shoulder. Asmira guessed that the one speaking to her was the leader, and that the one behind her shoulder was a commander of sorts. The other must not have been too important, and was dealing with the talons slashes across her face. Asmira turned back to the leader.
"I-I'm Asmira," she said shakily.

Safiya flew into a hollow. She stood there, tears in her eyes. Pure Ones didn't cry! But here she was, weeping for her own violence. She half flew, half fell to the River Hoole and washed all the blood from her feathers. She went back to the bloodstained body of the owl she had killed. Still crying, she laid a single flower over the owl's wound. Wiping her eyes and toughening up again, she rejoined the other owls.
She wasn't to know that Asmira had seen. She would have been thankful it wasn't Thalia watching.

Asmira studied the leader of the owl band. She was beautiful and pure white, with darkening cream near the edges of her wings. She had jet-black eyes and shiny, unblemished talons. Her facial disk was pure and clean, and as beautiful as the full moon.
The little owlet turned to the Commander. She seemed to be a younger version of the Leader, with the same pure white facial disk, onyx black eyes and creamy white feathers. She had darker colouring, but it set her apart and made her unique in her own way. She seemed to look up greatly to the Leader and revere her.
Asmira had studied the owl who had killed her mother. She had a much darker face mask then the others, brown and speckled. Her feathers were dark and mud-colored, or perhaps like bark. She had an almost concealed scar on her head and black talons. Asmira memorized the owl's features. I will find her, Asmira promised her mother silently, I'll avenge you.

Safiya flew up to Thalia. "May I assist you by holding the owlet, Your Pureness? I will not yarp on it this time, I swear by my pure blood." How Safiya wished she had not done it. She would have to tutor an owlet who would forever hate her.
