After strapping on the battle claws, quite a chore when alone, Tinker launched out of the hollow, quite awkwardly because of the unaccustomed weight of the claws. He looked for the moon. The night was getting old, so the moon was in the east, but there were still a few more hours before the sun rose. Tinker beckoned to Cleef and began to fly north, looking for the telltale smoke of a smith's fire.

Cleef flew behind Tinker and kept his eyes out for any sign of a smith. They where at the boarder between the desert and the forest of Ambala this time. This was where the owl nappers where suspected to be, but first they needed to find the smith. Cleef saw some smoke rising up ahead. "I think I see some smoke up ahead. Hopefully this smith doesn't charge much because I don't have much in this pouch and hopefully he has the time to make a battle mask or have one on stock your size."

Tinker spotted the smoke at about the same time as Cleef did. "It's not unlikely that a smith from around here would, as many owls from the desert must come here." He said, thoughtfully. "All the same, the most important thing is arming you because otherwise there's no point in trying to fight."

Cleef chured a little. "I have no intentions in trying to kill any of the owl nappers. I merely want to get my family back. I would like to avoid any casulties we can. We are here to get you a battle mask. In other words the plan is to be a more or less a defensive rescue. If you know what I mean. I had you wear the battle claws so you can have somewhat of a shielding force. I don't mean to insult you. I just don't know how well you can dodge." Cleef lighted down at the entrance of the smiths work hollow (OCC: I forget what they're called). The smith was working on what looked to be a short blade. He stopped in his work and looked at Cleef "Can I help ya?" He asked. "My friend needs a battle mask if you have any on stock that'll fit him we'll take that but if you have to make one please make it quickly." relpied Cleef. "Well I'll have to see your friend and take some measurements. Where is he?" asked the smith. "He'll be landing shortly. Had to detour for a better landing position." Answered Cleef.

Tinker landed after Cleef, having taken a detour to avoid a small copse of trees so he could land less steeply. He landed from behind the Smith, a male great grey, which is why he hadn't been seen. Tinker had heard the last bit of the conversation and said "I'm here, take what measurements you need."

The Smith gave a little start "OH! I didn't see ya there." He said "Alrighty then let me get my measuring tools and we'll see what we can do for ya." The Smith began walking into his work place and turned around "Are ya comin or are ya gonna stand there and look pretty?" He said with a slight churr. He then disappeared into the forge. Cleef walked Tinker in and said "Seems like a nice fellow". The smith came back with his measuring tools and began his measurements on Tinker nodding and occasionally saying "alright."
After a few minutes of measuring he put his measuring tools away and asked "What's your price?" Cleef opened his pouch and pulled out a piece of colored glass. "This is all I have to trade with." said Cleef with a slight shrug. The Smith disappeared into what appeared to be a storage section of the forge and came back out with a battle mask. "Try this on." he said to Tinker. (OCC: You get to explain what the battle mask was made of, what it looks like, etc.)

The battle mask was of rough make and was quite heavy. Clearly the smith wasn't totally pleased with the payment Cleef had made. Tinker tried it on regardless and if fit nearly perfectly. "We'll take it," said Tinker, taking taking the mask back off. Tell me, smith, have you heard of any bad doings here? Any owlnappers?

The smith swiveled his head left and then right obviously making sure no one else was listening. "I was hoping someone would come along and take care of these thug nappers that've made themselves known. They took a family of burrowing owls and elf owls you know. I personally despise their doings because they base not to far from here and I always see them flying about. They had the audacity to steal some of my makings out of forge right under my beak. They base just a few trees north of here." The smith indicated with a gesture the direction "That is why your here right?" he asked. Cleef nodded and said "Yes, those burrowing owls are my parents and the Elves are their neighbors." "Well why didn't you say so!" boomed the smith happily. He took the battle mask back from Tinker and disappeared within his forge.
This time he came out with a far nicer battle mask "This one should feel alot better and help you more in your mission." He handed the mask to Tinker. "That glass and getting rid of those thugs well pay it off. Now be hasty who knows what they may do to your family Burrowing owl." Cleef handed the smith the glass who kindly took it and countinued in his work on the blade. Cleef turned his head to Tinker "Like I said.......nice fellow." Cleef then flew off in the direction the smith had indicated. (OCC: You now have a better mask which you also get to detail. )

Tinker put on the second battle mask. It too fit extremely well and only slightly impeded Tinker's vision. It was very dark, as if something had been put in the metal to dye it, and not very reflective. It was clearly designed with stealth in mind, indeed it was nearly the colour of Tinker's own feathers. It weighed almost nothing when put on and was extremely thin. Tinker was worried about its strength but hoped the smith was as desperate to get rid of the goons as he said he was. His examination of the mask complete, Tinker took off, heading north. The moon had set but the sun had yet to rise. It took several minutes after he left the light of the smith's forge for Tinker's eyes to adjust to the renewed darkness.

Cleef was sitting on branch near the thugs hideaway. He had taken his battle mask out of his pouch and put it on. It was a mask made of bronze metal with silver lining going around the eyes and down the beak cover with some silver designs around the signs, nothing to fancy. It was a light weight mask but strong enough to give a head butt with the wearer feeling a minimum amount of the blow, just the right kind of mask for Cleef's fighting style. He looked down below and around the surrounding trees analyzing the hideaway.
Below was what looked like the prisoners quarters. It was a burrow that the prisoners where held in with two owls, one a burrowing owl and one a great gray, guarding it. In the surrounding trees where various hollows that seemed to serve as living and storage quarters. Cleef walked to the part of his branch closest to the tree so he would not be seen to well and waited for Tinker. A plan forming in his mind.

Tinker landed softly on a branch near Cleef, the branch creaking mournfully as he landed on it. Following Cleef's look, he saw the burrowing owl and his guard. The hollow was medium-sized, it could have held a few more owls. Hopping closer to Cleef, Tinker whispered, "Where are the others? We need to know to form any kind of useful plan."

Cleef swiveled his head to Tinker "So far I've only seen one or two more owls flying about the hollows in the trees, but that doesn't mean that there isn't more. My best guess is that the burrow down below surrounded by the burrowing owl and great gray is the prisoners quarters. As for the plan I have one but we're going to have to have all of our wits for it. The plan is pretty much a distraction and extraction. I'll draw their attention to me and try to keep them on me for as long as possible. While the owls are distracted you'll fly down into the burrow and extract the prisoners. I can honestly tell you that I have no idea how well this is gonna work because I don't know if they've caught anymore owls recently or not and I don't know for sure how many enemies their are but it's all I got." Cleef looked down and sighed. "Position yourself on a branch where you have a straight shot into the burrow and signal me when you're ready."

"But there's only one prisoner down there!" Hissed Tinker. "Without knowing more, there is very little chance we will succeed. we need to see if we can find the rest before we do anything hasty. I'll fly around to the other side of the clearing and see if I can see any other hollows with prisoners." Tinker pointed to the east, to the other side of a small clearing. He then moved his wing to point west "You look over there. Meet me back here in ten minutes." Tinker sprang up and started working around the trees to the north, careful to stick to the shadows.

Cleef was embarresed he had been to qiuck to jump to action. He took a breath and said to himself "I am so lucky this owl is with me or I would probably be a stain n a tree" Cleef took off east flying hiigh against the canapy trying to blend in with the trees.
Cleef had flow to what seemed to be near the outskirts of these owls' stronghold. He saw a hollow up ahead with a geared up owl in front of it. Cleef flew to a nearby upper branch to observe and see wether or not this owl was guarding something. The owl was a great horned owl but didn't appear to be vary dangerous. He was pretty slim looking for a Great Horned and appeared to be dozing in and out of sleep. If he was guarding something it must not of posed a hard thing to guard to him. The owl turned his head, looked directly at Cleef.............and snapped to attention. (OCC: I'm going to leave off a little differently while Tinker and Cleef or split up. Trying to make things a little funner I guess..........tell me if it works. If so you can do the same.)

Tinker finished his foray to the other side of the clearing and looked around. From here he had a much better view of the first prison hollow. A shadow at the back caught his attention. Peering closer, he could see another owl huddled against the back of the hollow. It was too far in shadow for Tinker to see what gender or species it was. Returning his attention to his own surroundings, Tinker looked about. There was very little remarkable about this side of the clearing, as no more hollows came to sight. Tinker sighed inwardly and began to move away from the clearing, examining the trees for owls.
