Canis flew over the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. The night was young. All morning Canis had been thinking about one thing, Kyran. After he had helped her and flew off he had felt an odd feeling in his gizzard. But it wasn't an annoying feeling, it was warm and soothing. Canis flew back into his hollow to think again. He sat in his nest and started to develop some thoughts. "What is it that made my gizzard feel like this?" he thought. He looked over what he had done last night. "Was it the fact that I talked to Cam and he ignored me? No... Was it when I was roasting lemmings in the cooking hollow? No... Was it when I helped those wounded owlets? No... What could it have been?" he kept wondering.
As he wondered, he heard talons scratching at a piece of bark outside of his hollow. He flew out to see what it was. "Kyran!" he said in surprise. She looked up. "Hi Canis," she said softly. "What are you doing here?" he asked happily. "I was just waiting for you to get up. Tioren's still asleep and I came here hoping for some company. Do you have some time?" she asked. "Um, yeah, sure. But see I was-" Kyran cut him off. "I see. So you're doing something else. I get it. I'm sorry I came." she said a bit sad and flew off. "Stupid Canis! You wet pooper brain!" Canis thought to himself. "You blew it again! Go chase after her!" and with that thought, Canis flew off after Kyran.
Kyran flew with tears in her eyes. As Kyran flew, her wings got tired and she landed on a branch in front of her hollow. Just as she landed, another owl came from the back of her. "Kyran wait!" Canis called. Kyran turned her back to him. "Please, Kyran! I'm sorry! Hey, I'm an idiot! I say dumb things! Please forgive me!" he pleaded. "Leave me alone. Go back to your important business." she said with anger and sadness in her voice. Kyran flew back into her hollow. She looked at Tioren and waited for her to wake up.
As Canis flew back into his hollow, he felt his gizzard have that feeling again. No, it was a bit different this time. Last time it was warm and soothing, this time it was warm but filled with guilt. Suddenly he realized what it was! "It's love!" he thought. "That's what it has been this whole time! Why didn't I think of this before! Now I feel warm but guilty because I hurt her feelings and before I had felt warm and shimmering as I looked into her eyes! I have to tell her! I have to...to propose!" he thought. "I'll need Tioren's help and I'll need to be away to find the perfect thing. All I can do is wait for Kyran to fall asleep and for Tioren to come out of the hollow!" And that was exactly what Canis did.

Tioren shuddered with amusement. After waking up and acting like she was asleep for a moment, then Kyran leaving, she wanted to see what was happening. Kyran had flown away, Canis finally fluttering after hooting a bit too loudly about being sorry. Tioren flapped upwards, barely avoiding a branch, and followed after Canis with a few heavy strokes. She quietly went around the spot Kyran had flown, lowering her head to miss a branch by a feather. After a moment with her senses, Tioren found Canis at his hollow- without Kyran. "Whoa, Canis, did you two get in a fight or something? It seems harsh, especially when you two..." She trailed off, not wanting to utter 'love' in front of Canis. "Uh, well, is there anything I can do here, or should I go back to not worry Kyran? She is pretty good with wounds..."

Canis was perched outside his hollow when Tioren flew over. She talked to him. "I upset her." he said sadly. Then he looked at her straight in the eyes. "I'm going to be away for a moon cycle or so. I'm going to find something to give her when I... propose." he said a bit excited. Tioren's eyes seemed to widen. "Yes," he said. "I love her and I found out this morning. I don't know if she'll accept but I'm going to take the chance. I'm also going to tell her right now. About your question earlier, I think after I talk to her you should go back to her hollow and talk to her. I'm leaving after tweener. I need you to tell me what she says after I leave. Will you do this for me?" he asked with a desperate hoot. Then he flew off into Kyran's hollow.
Canis looked at Kyran and tapped her on the wing slightly. She turned around. "Kyran, I'm going to be leaving for a moon cycle or so." he began. She looked at him in surprise and wilfed. "I'm going to leave after tweener." he said. "And then what?" she asked, her voice quivering. Canis looked straight into her beautiful amber eyes. "Then let's get married." he said, his voice perfectly warm and calm. Kyran looked at him with tears in her eyes. "Canis!" she said and fell into his wings. "I'll wait until you come back, I promise!" she said in sheer happiness. Canis looked at her in surprise. "So she loved me all along!" he thought in joy. He hugged her back. He was so happy that if she asked him to get mobbed by crows, he would. Then Canis realized that he need to cook breakfast! "I'll go finish breakfast." he said and flew off. "Good-bye!" she called to him. Then she looked outside the hollow. "How long have you been out there?" she asked Tioren.

"Okay, it's a good idea." Tioren ruffled her feathers and smiled as Canis flew of, flinching when Kyran was the one to look over. "I, uh, was here for... a short while. after you went off with Canis following after... and I heard all of the- yeah." She looked away and actually sniffed. Canis had wanted her help? Then Kyran accepted without hesitation what Canis was proposing to do? I wish life was this easy for me... "I knew. I'm wondering now what you're going to do while he's gone, though. It seems such a short notice to propose and then leave, but maybe it's been for the best?"

Kyran smiled at Tioren's response. "It is. Trust me. Canis is no fool. He knows owls and I guess he knows me." she said with a churr, the owl form of laughter. "I know he's leaving for good reasons. I can feel it in my gizzard. Now what are we waiting for? Let's go get some tweener." Kyran said and flew out of the hollow. She landed on a perch outside and waited for Tioren to climb on. "After tweener we'll be starting your flying lessons." she said. Kyran was sure that she saw Tioren's eyes widen in anticipation. "Perhaps I'll also have a talk with Aakesh/the king and ask him if you could be in the colliering chaw. Everything's going to be fine." she said in joy while gently putting Tioren on her back and flying off.

Tioren thought for a moment. "Okay, that sounds good." As she climbed on to Kyran's back, she added, "Aakesh will not be too generous when you ask, I know. I hooted... a bit too loudly in his beak."

"Um, what do you mean? Did you yell at him? Will he hurt me?" Kyran asked a bit scared. Then she returned to her normal, happy self. "I'm sure it'll go fine. What could go wrong? You didn't do anything bad... right?" she said. Then Kyran flew into the dining hollow with Tioren on her back. They sat at the nestmaid snake Audrey. They ate milkberry tarts, roasted bat wings, fresh lemmings, and they drank milkberry tea. After tweener, Kyran took Tioren back to what was now they're hollow. "I'll be right back, I need to get new supplies for your wounds." she said and flew out of the hollow.
Kyran looked all over. "Darn it! I wish Canis was here! He always finds the best supplies." she thought. Suddenly, Kyran felt a twinge of pain in her gizzard. "Canis..." she said quietly. As if both their minds were one they read each others' minds. Kyran looked up at the sky. "He left just now." she said quietly. As she thought this, Canis looked down as he flew away. "Kyran, I'll be back soon. I promise." he said quietly and kept flying.
Kyran flew back into her hollow. "Here," she said sounding distracted. It seemed as if she was looking off into the distance. Kyran replaced the old moss and worms with the new ones. Then she sat in her nest next to Tioren. "Hey Ti, you've been healing a lot faster than my healing expertise allow. I think you might be able to start flying tonight. We'll start your lessons in about 2 hours. For 1 hour you'll need to finish resting and the next hour you have to start branching. Once you're done with that we'll start, ok?" Kyran said and smiled. It was said that it would be good weather that night.

Tioren felt a warm sensation in her gizzard for the first time that day. Things were going smoothly, and she could tell what was going on at all times. "Kyran, you already miss him, don't you? Canis may have been a little sudden when proposing to you, but both of you know love. It actually caught up both of you just today. Like you said, he does know what he's doing." She nodded when Kyran brought up lessons, her gizzard now filled with a fluttering nervous feeling. Or did that mean she was going to regurgitate? She didn't actually get her whole meal eaten, but she figured she could get some later, being used to shortage of food. Tioren was just too excited, really, to start and finish thinking about things other than Kyran, Canis and flight. She shuddered in adrenaline as she did alot, settling down with the extra energy gone. Realizing how tired she really was, Tioren tucked her beak down and immediatly fell asleep as before.

(Time for another freakout!)
Kyran looked at Tioren sleeping. "How easily she falls asleep." Kyran thought. "I wish I could do that and not worry and miss Canis. I'll go out while she sleeps for an hour. Don't want to disturb her." she thought and flew silently out of the hollow. Kyran flew, ducking the branches of the great tree as the wind blew hard. She fluffed out her feathers to keep warm. Just as she was ducking another branch, the wind blew fierce and she started tumbling through the trees. "Aah!" she screamed.

(lol, did you notice that our profile pictures are BOTH the owls we're roleplaying? Lmfao! And super post time!)
Tioren heard a faint whistling and was brought out of her nothingness kind of state when sleeping. She thought she heard a bird cry for help, and the same thing from the storm flashed through her mind before waking up. When looking up, she saw that it was windy, like before. But she didn't see a tired mother, she heard the cry of... of... "KYRAN!" Without thinking, Tioren started hopping branches as she did before, realizing it was too slow and did a clumsy dive. By then she had come to her senses and was utterly amazed at her self. Still, she followed through, knowing she could get hurt. The wind was on her side when coming back up, but she swerved when almost hitting a tree and was suddenly pushed back. "Kyran... Kyran..." She almost went into a panick mode when spotting Kyran farther down. Really farther down, looking unable to get back up. Tioren felt sick in the gizzard with a flashing thought of getting hurt. But when she started going down, there was no thought at all, just action.
Tioren gave another steep dive and swooped again, finally caught by the wind. She used alll of her non-mind power to fly forwards and down at the same time, and it worked for a minute. She was so close to Kyran and fastly twittered, "Kyran, I'm coming!" Finally using all of her strength, Tioren flapped as hard as she could to make the pace Kyran had and went down. She dove straight under an easy yard from Kyran, waiting for impact and hoping she made it. She was clipped by Kyran's wing, but it was enough to hold on to. She tried to gently pull Kyran's wing up, just to decide to move. Tioren went right underneath Kyran and started flapping straight up, being pushed by the wind. She strained as hard as she could to get behind a tree a yard away, finally getting out of the wind.
Tioren let Kyran out of the so wrong-looking pose and stared at her, breathing heavy. "K-Kyran... are you... alright? Did you get hit by the wind?" She really felt sick in the gizzard now, wings aching and her mind actually clearing once again, finally being hit with what she did like the wind on her wings. Tioren staggered backwards into the tree trunk and hooted very quietly,"Did..... I just do that?"

Kyran woke up inside her hollow with a pain in her eyes. It hurt a lot to open them so she kept them closed. She looked back at what had happened. She was flying out of her hollow when a strong wind blew. Then she started tumbling through the tree branches and her eyes got cut by the very sharp thorns that grow on the tree. That was all she remembered. Kyran kept her eyes closed and lifted her head up. She heard Tioren talking, at least, she thought it was Tioren but who could be sure? So she heard Tioren talking but it all sounded muffled. Kyran pulled out her wings to feel around. Yes, this was definitely Tioren.
"I must have been knocked out since I don't remember anything else!" she thought. "But how did I get back up here?" At that thought, Kyran tilted her head up at Tioren without opening her eyes. "You saved me, didn't you?" she said more than a little sure. "Where did you find the strength? And aside from that, I thank you from the bottom of my gizzard. My eyes really hurt. Can you see if they're cut or something?" Kyran asked trying her best to open her eyes. Poor Kyran didn't know this but her eyes were bleeding and on top of that the thorns had cut her eyes deep... very deep.
As Kyran sat in her hollow with the blood pouring out of her eyes, Canis flew through the Northern Kingdoms. "What could I find?" he thought. He kept flying and then he looked down. He saw birch trees. "The Glauxian Brothers Retreat!" the thought exploded in his head. He blinked and in that blink many memories came back to him. But a few in particular were very special. Those memories were the ones of him and Kyran sitting hunched over a book studying and when Canis won at a game and Kyran hugged him in happiness because he always gave her the prize. How had he not realized that he loved her back then? Just as he thought that, a painful twinge came back to him. It was the same feeling he had felt when he left the retreat without saying good-bye to the owl most dear to him, his dear Kyran. Canis flew down to the retreat.
The brothers welcomed him back and he told them his business in the Northern Kingdoms. The brothers knew this day would come and they decided to help him. Canis would be giving Kyran a very special thing that would remind her of their friendship many years ago.

Tioren shuddered. "Um, I really don't know how I did it... But... You're hurt! I would've switched places with you for anything since my state.... is worse than yours." She whispered, Um, um, uh....... and said loudly, "Aagh, what am I supposed to do?! Uh, Kyran, you're eyes are bleeding and cut. I don't know who to get, and, err... I guess I'll have to tell you what I'm doing at all times, I think. Do you know what you need or do to have your eyes heal a bit so you can at least see?"
Tioren started off by telling Kyran, "Uh, I'm going to pull a few thorns out... of your eyes. I only see two in the left one, so, yeah, I think you're other eye will be fine at least?" She started getting a bit more comfortable at the sight of Kyran once again, so Tioren started talking smoother. "What I've heard is that protecting a scratched eye from the wind or being touched by something is the best way to help it heal, but first you have to.... oh, clean it, right. I can't believe I listened to my grandbirds' stories and had it pay off... well, I'm going to pull the thorns before trying to clean....." Tioren shuddered again and quickly pulled out the two thorns sitting next to each other in Kyran's left eye. She uttered 'Sorry' when seeing her flinch slightly. "Okay, Kyran, I'll need your instruction for cleaning and patching..." Tioren paused and let out a tiny wail as if everything in the beyond of the beyond was attacking her. "...If you know how to..."

"I do know how... I'm sorry if it pains you to see me. I can do this on my own if you'd like." Kyran said with a hoot of distress. The thorns were sinking deeper every time she blinked. "The first thing you have to do is go into my medicine cabinet and pull out the vaccinium corymbosum." she said. Kyran saw with the bit of her eye that was open, that Tioren had no idea what she was talking about. "Um, okay, you probably don't know what that is. Um... oh! Pull out the blue plant and the red plant." she said.
"Ok, now that you have those out you rip the stem of both plants off and put them down in the corner. Then just take the part with the berries on it and squeeze the juice into that clear liquid over there." Kyran said pointing with a wing. "And then put the liquid in my eyes. After that you take the stem that you ripped off and you gently pull the thorns out with it. When that's done, you take the berry peel and put it in some of that blue liquid and mix it together. Then take the blue liquid and pour it into the purple liquid and mix that together. Stick a few bits of moss into that mixture and let it settle for about a minute. Then you pour that onto my eyes." Kyran instructed as Tioren did the steps. "After you pour the second liquid into my eyes you take that little mouse hide over there and, please, very gently, rub the liquid into my eyes. After that just bring me some wood and I'll show you how to make the pulp for my patches." Kyran said with a bit of a groan. Her eyes were still bleeding heavily. Hopefully, Tioren had done EXACTLY what she had said or else, well, Kyran didn't really want to think about that.
As soon as Tioren brought the wood, Kyran showed her how to peel the bark and make it flexible. "Now, take the bark and dip it into the brown mixture that you made. Shake the bark out a bit so that it's not dripping and carefully put one piece of the flexible bark on each of my eyes." Kyran instructed.

"hmm..." Tioren followed Kyran's instructions very carefully, quickly and quietly, frowning a bit in confusion when rubbing the liquid into her eyes. "Kyran, do you know if it hurts?" She dipped the wood into the brown mixture and shook it until it stopped dripping but was still wet. Carefully placing the bark over each eye, Tioren said worriedly, "Do you think you're okay for now?

"Actually I can't give words for the agony I'm feeling right now. I'm holding back my screeches of pain because you're doing me a favor. About your second question, I don't think I'll see ever again but it would be nice to ease the pain and at least have the eye grow back where the cuts are. Don't you worry about me though, I'll be fine." Kyran said in her usual worry free voice. Kyran was the kind of owl who doesn't want to worry anyone so sometimes she pretends everything's okay but it's not. Kyran smiled at Tioren. "Thank you for your help. Now that you've patched up my eyes I'm feeling a lot better Tioren. I don't know what I'd do without you." Kyran said in a voice that seemed to make Tioren feel special. "I don't really know what I'll do these next few days. I'm going to have to get used to my blindness but I don't know how I'll fly while doing this." Kyran said with the slightest bit of sadness in her voice. Then she tilted her head up and smiled. "But I'm sure I'll manage. I'm sorry about this little set back. I was supposed to help you fly tonight but instead it was quite the opposite. You helped me." she said.
As Kyran and Tioren sat in their hollow, Canis was busy putting the finishing touches on his gift to Kyran. He sat at a work table at the Glauxian Brothers' Retreat wrapping his gift. As soon as he finished, he flew out of his hollow and up to the owls who were in the middle of a meditation flight. "I'm finished so I'll be leaving now." he told the brothers. He bid them farewell and started his journey back to the Great Tree. "I wonder what Kyran is up to." he thought and kept flying.
