[Fabled Ones | Shrieks]
The beginnings of a Shriek, so named for the terrible sound they emit, is a typical owls head with feather tuffs protruding where ears would be. Their chest is covered in shingled flight feathers covering dense down feathers. The joints that connect their wings to their body also act as shoulder blades. Silken feathers akin to strands of hair sheath nearly half of their reptilian "arms". Lethal curved talons sprout from stilt like toes and a heavily coated body gives way to their hind quarters.
A Shrieks rear is similar to a snow leopards with the powerful legs of a retractable clawed hunter and a thick tail twice the length of their torso.
Their entirety is covered in the down feathers while the top layer deviates from fur to feathers of different purpose. Shrieks come in many shades of white and can be elegant, heavy set, or in between. Their markings, consisting of specks, crests, and blotches, are never heavy and can range from brown to black. Their eyes can be an array of natural warm colours while their beak and scales are off black to an almost blinding silver. Shrieks are about seven times the size of a Tyto, females being slightly larger than males, while elders, or Highborns, are three times that.
[Wayward Shriek]
A Wayward Shriek, outside of St. Aggies grasp, will always have un-dilated pupils, making them crazed and frightened at night. While moon blinking seems to restore their sight it also costs them whatever little amount of will they had left.
Even so they are nocturnal and if a Shriek so happens to be hunting during daylight the transition into a Wayward Shriek has become irreversible, lost to even moon blinking these are by far the most dangerous because of their unpredictable tendencies and the likelihood that due to poor hygiene and a taste for rotten meat they carry with them sickness.
[Fabled Ones Magick]
They have an aura about them that keeps water in all its forms, be it a frigid tempest or a damp drizzle, from accumulating on their wings. Because of this they can easily hunt, or launch an attack, rain or shine. It is unknown if this aura can outstretch to other species or not as of yet.
~*~
The histories, said to have been recorded on scrolls made of goats skin, were assumed lost in what is known only as; The Ashen Rebirth. It is believed by some that the Highborns still have in their possession and protect the manuscripts.
