Not many barn owls are darkly colored. Sure, many "lesser" species, as the Pure Ones would put it, were darker than the Tyto alba.
However, for a young Tyto alba born in the Shadow Forest, this was not the case. You see, this owl was hatched during a solar eclipse, and some say that this phenomenon gifted him.
Smoke, as he came to be known, was completely black, with deep amethyst eyes and dark red talons. His own mother feared him, so much so that she was tempted to push him from the nest. But she didn't, and instead watched as her "monstrosity" grew into a powerful owl. When he flew, not even she could hear the faintest sound of his flapping, even though he flew with a unique swiftness. When he landed, there was no creak or scraping of talons on wood.
He couldn't even talk.
He still lives deep in the Shadow Forest, as befits one such as himself. In his silence, he has learned much of the world, and for the right price, he will do whatever you need doing.
Smoke is relentless. Smoke is fast, vicious and efficient. But above all, he is the epitome of patience.
No matter who you are, where you are or where you're going, if you are his Fire, he's not far behind.
