Name: Dimitri
Gender: Male
Age: 78
Species: Barn Owl
Kingdom: Pure Ones
Position: General/Former High Tyto
Description/Picture:
Personality: As an owl that has lived through war and the near-destruction of the Pure Ones, Dimitri is a very reserved and quiet owl. Though once a proud and ambitious warrior, age and time has tempered those feelings and he now simply waits out the last years of his life. Though he still serves as a high-ranking member of the Pure Ones, his enthusiasm for the movement has been tapered with the current rule of Tytus, who he feels has let the Pure Ones laps into a false sense of security and apathy. Although he never had owlets of his own, he has served as an adopted father to numerous owlets who the Pure Ones have snatched and has treated each just as they were his own.
Strengths: Having lived for so long, Dimitri has amassed a large amount of knowledge, particularly about how the Guardians of Ga'Hoole operate and their allegiances with other kingdoms. He still retains a tactical mind and is often developing new strategies to better work with the Pure Ones' limited resources. He is also proven to be a very caring and compassionate father-figure for young owlets, which makes their transition into the Pure Ones easier.
Weaknesses: Due to his age, Dimitri is no longer a capable fighter. He is slow and weaker than in his young, though he can still defend himself to some degree with battle claws. He also is plagued by nightmares of the destruction of the Pure Ones by the Guardians and results in semi-frequent insomnia. Connected to this, he is also plagued by bouts of depression and on more than one instance has attempted to commit suicide, only to be stopped by his foster children.
History: Dimitri was born only three weeks before the arrival of Kludd into the Pure Ones, and thus he grew up in what some might consider the golden age of the Pure Ones. He lived through some of the Pure One's greatest events, but also through their greatest failures. He had been too young to partake in the attack on the Great Tree, but was involved in the battle where Kludd lost his life. His survival meant that he was easily chosen for higher ranked positions and served alongside such figures as Uglamore and Stryker. But for all his loyal service to the Pure Ones, once Nyra's owlet Nyroc betrayed his mother, he felt very uncomfortable with the direction the Pure Ones went. He watched as Nyra seemingly went mad, obsessed with her son and the Ember of Hoole. It all collided in Dimitri's last battle, where Nyra died and the Pure Ones basically ceased to exist.
Dimitri was one of only four Pure Ones to survive the battle and, being the highest ranked of them, quickly took control and declared himself the new High Tyto. He immediately retreated from the known owl world, setting up what would become the current Pure One HQ. He abandoned all quests for power or dominion, instead focusing simply on trying to recruit new owls to rebuild their numbers. His authority was challenged many times by the other survivors, some who wished to simply attack the Guardians again with hireclaws, others who wanted to dissolve the Pure Ones completely. But Dimitri remained steadfast and as new owls joined or were snatched, he found less resistance to his orders arose from the other survivors.
After a year after the death of Nyra, Dimitri resigned from the position of High Tyto. With the Pure Ones on the rebound by this point, Dimitri felt that if he remained any longer he would be seen as a usurper by some of the younger owlets who knew nothing of the previous destruction of the Pure Ones. He took position instead as a simple general and also began fostering young owlets who were taken from their families or for owlets hatched from snatched eggs. This would prove to be the factor that kept him with the Pure Ones, for he became disillusioned with the Pure Ones, particularly with the rule of Tytus who he felt was not a proper ruler and was letting the Pure Ones sink into apathy. However, his concern for his adopted children prevented him from leaving, and thus the old Barn Owl remains amongst the Pure Ones, though know mostly seen by the younger generation as a relic of a long-forgotten age.
Codeword: FraggleBeak
Other: Dimitri is both the adopted father of Paige as well as the owl who trained Sentes in the art of espionage and trickery.
