Name: Dartmont
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Species: Great Horned Owl
Kingdom: Ambala
Position: Slipgizzle/Blacksmith
Description/Picture:
Personality: A calm and shy owl, Dartmont spends little time with other owls, preferring to be left alone to his own devices. That isn't to say he isolates himself completely, he is more than willing to aid a fellow owl in need or provide services in exchange for goods, but you will not see him join in on social gatherings. Although he tends to avoid violent confrontations, he nonetheless is fierce in battle and has low tolerance for owls that are rude and disrespectful to him. He is also fairly curious and is eager to learn about new topics, be it about healing, weather or history. Despite his rough exterior, Dartmont has a soft heart and secretly wishes to find another owl who will love him, but due to past experiences he has let the fear of rejection take over and dictate his actions.
Strengths: He has a great understanding of numerous topics, though metalwork and carpentry are the two areas he holds expertise. Due to his size, he also possess a fair amount of strength, which helps him a great deal with forging metal items and when engaging an enemy. He is also an own known to be trustworthy and Dartmont strives to honor his promises, no matter how difficult it maybe to do so.
Weaknesses: Simply put, Dartmont is very stubborn and independent, to the point that he refuses the assistance of others, even if it would save him from an otherwise dangerous situation. In addition, he is a slow owl, unable to match the speeds of the smaller owls and is not able to make adjustments in flight very quickly. As a result, he can rarely outmatch an opponent in flight, only through sheer force and endurance. Dartmont is also prone to brief bouts of depression, due to the complex mix of emotions that govern his actions and will often abandon projects during these times.
History: Dartmont was born deep in the south, in the lands that had no real political or societal structure. As a result his early months were a bit of a struggle as his parents struggled to protect him and his clutch-mates. After his father died, his mother struggled to provide for them, until out of three offspring, Dartmont was the only survivor. In order to save her surviving offspring, she fled with Dartmont to the north, seeking refuge in the kingdoms there. They found a home in the Beaks and lived there until Dartmont was and adult and finally departed from her company. Initially, Dartmont journeyed to the Great Tree, with hopes to join the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, but a month into his stay he found himself uneasy around the other owls and left. The Kingdom of Ambala became his home, where he took what he learned at the Great Tree to start a career as a blacksmith. He started off with simple things, like nails, and traded them for books to further his understanding. Through these trades he made connections and met his first love, a fellow Great Horned names Emelia. They developed a close bond between them, or at least what Dartmont had thought was a close bond. But three months after they first met, Emelia betrayed him, allowing another Great Horned male to ransack and steal a number of Dartmont's belongings. Broken-hearted and in ruin, he left his home and resettled near the city of Pinop and started over again, though now severely limiting his interactions with other owls, afraid of being betrayed, once again, by those he trusted.
IC: Dartmont swung his hammer. Once! Twice! He used his tongs to turn the piece of red-hot metal over and swung again. Over and over he repeated these motions, motions he had repeated for many, many months. By now it was a familiar routine, nail and Battle Claws were his most-requested items. Nails were practically worthless, only when sold in bulk did he ever receive anything worthwhile. But Battle Claws, those were desired enough to fetch him at least one complete book, sometimes even two if his commissioner had some ultra-specific demands for the claws. Today he had a pari of claws to finish, but it was worth his effort; he had been promised a book on constellations which, as the commissioner had claimed, had been written by the Glauxian Brothers. Such a book would be quite a good read and to date he hadn't come across any books about the night sky, save for one about weather patterns. He often liked to sit at the top of his tree and stare out unto the empty sky, and hopefully with this book he could learn to spot which constellations were visible on any given night.
