It was a windy day here in St. Aggie's.
The sharp whistling from the rocks filled the canyons with hagsfiend-like screams, puncturing the ears of any conscious owl with a painful ringing. One such owl who had woken up to the shrill wails was a tiny Flammulated, tucked away in a small shelf of rock. He had chosen to make his nest off of the canyon floor, higher up like his tree n Ambala. Knowing that he was too terrified to ever fly off, they gave him permission, and he was grateful.
Aurelio's nest was nothing special. Straw provided frame, while his own molted feathers and down provided warmth and comfort. As a lowly pit guardian, the small male had no privilege to the incredibly soft moss from far off regions. He had woken up just before dawn, preened himself, and now sat at his current predicament.
It was quite windy where he was.
Aurelio's talons made soft tick!s on the stone shelf as he paced back and forth along the edge. His multicolored feathers were blown back on one side by the mighty gust- it was a wonder he hadn't already toppled over. Clearly not wanting to end up like another Pit Guardian whom he saw slam into an arch by the winds, Aurelio was trying to judge the wind best he could, waiting for a lighter gust or break in the stream.
"Heheh, having trouble there, Aurelio?"
Oh, Glaux, no. Aurelio partially wilfed, locking his gaze to the canyon floor below, and not the Eagle Owl hovering beside him. "None at all." The Flammulated owl replied briskly, "But thank you for your concern."
The Eagle Owl cocked his head to the side, mockingly, "Oh, really? Then why don't you fly back to your sorry little chick now, then?"
Aurelio tensed, "Grelth, I do not have a chick to care for at present, you see. I am on a different duty today." he had enough of the owl's bullying, honestly. But, as a lower rank, who was he to fight back? He hardly had any rights.
Grelth parted his beak in a nasty grin, "Then let me help you get down there, eh?"
Aurelio turned to see the owl raising his feet in the air, preparing to knock him off his shelf. Almost the size of an elf owl chick with how much he wilfed, Aurelio quickly scurried back into his niche, where he knew the larger owl could not follow. Grelth landed on the stone shelf, shoving his feet into the hole, talons extended. He was only about two inches away from the frightened Flammulated Owl.
