A messenger arrived, out of breath in the hollow of the Spotted Owl Coliaby. "What is it?" she asked. The little owl replied "Your ryb wants you. There are reports of a quake in Tyto and we need to go find the missing owls. Tracking's comng too." Coliaby felt her heart leap. Tyto! she thought. The messenger turned to leave. "Wait!" Coliaby said. "Do I need my claws?" "Yes, you do." he replied and fluttered off. Coliaby flew down to the armoury and put on her battleset. Her trade-off partner,or wingman, another Spotted owl named Parzival flew in behind her. They flew out just as the rest of the chaw arrived to get their Battle Claws.

Cleef maneuvered through the newly fallen trees, looking for any injured owls or lost owlets. An earthquake had struck the forest Kingdom of Tyto and left most of its inhabitants dazed and confused. The burrowing owl noticed a hollow near what had once been the top of a tree, but was now the closest part of the tree to the ground. He landed, walked up to the hollow, and peeked inside.
This hollow had been the home of a barn owl family before the quake. It wouldn't offer much protection from the predators on the ground now. However, there was still someone inside. Cleef's heart went out to the owl that he found inside the hollow. She stood, bloody from being bashed against the wall of the hollow, over three shattered egg shells. The yoke, that had once been the beginning of the organism inside, now wet some of the owl's feathers and talons. Cleef called in to the owl, "Is there anything I can do for you madam?"
The Tyto's head snapped towards the burrowing owl. Her eyes and feathers around her eyes were soaked with tears. She began to sob and, finally realizing and accepting the scare of all that had happened and what had happened, broke down completely. Cleef hopped into the hollow and embraced the Tyto as best he could, allowing her to cry on his shoulder.

Ankha Ankha flexed her wings, shifting to embrace the wind as she darted beneath the canopy of gnarled trees. Her eyes searched the ground beneath for injured owls that may require assistance. A slight twitch of movement caught her eye and with a single swift movement, Ankha began her descent. A young grass owlet lay limp on the ground, tears streaming from his eyes.
"Are you alright?" she said, lighting down beside the owl. He shook his head and tried to raise his port wing. "I think it's broken." he moaned. She nodded and eased him into a basket. "Stay still," she instructed as she beat her wings hard against the air, struggling to raise the additional weight of this owl along with her own. She managed to fly the owlet down to the main campus just outside of the forest, where various medics were tending to wounds.
The little owl heard an agonized wail emanate from a fallen family tree, naturally, she rushed to their aid. She was partially relieved to find another Burrowing owl already comforting the distraught Tyto. She recognized him to be Cleef, they had never spoken with each other, but she had seen him many a time lending a helping talon on missions such as this. "Cleef," she said. "I see you have this situation under control." she felt her cheeks flush red beneath her tawny feathers.

A screech emnated from the ground. Nodding to Parzival, Coliaby locked back her battleclaws and swooped. A Masked Owl was weeping near a newly hatched owlet and a smashed egg.. "He's not moving!" she wailed, scrambling near the Spotted Owl. "He's my little brother. I cant fly yet and I was holding him and we fell. He hit first, and I landed on top of him!" The Masked Owl cried. Coliaby lifted the owlet. "I'm sorry. Youu need medical care. I'll carry you." The owl shakily picked up her brother. Coliaby lifted into flight, circled once, then snatched the duo as she might a vole, though considerably more gently. The owl squrmed. "Please stop moving or I might drop you." The owl stilled at once. Coliaby struggled to the campus. "One's dead. She'll need shock treatment too." Coliaby gently preened the sobbing wl's feathers. It seemed to calm her. "I have to go now. I'm sorry." Coliaby beat her wings and glided back to the quake area. Immediately, she had to pick up a Bay Owl with a snapped wing. It had bent into a horrible compound fracture. Then she noticed the owl's lboured breathing and neck twisted at an unusual angle. "Cleef! Anhka! Parzival! Get the medics, quick!"

Cleef acknowledged Ankha, a beautiful burrowing owl, with a nod, but didn't say anything as the distressed female Tyto found her voice through her sobs, "M-my mate went out hunting before the quake happened. If-if you could find him, I would greatly appreciate it."
Cleef nodded, "I will do my best." It was about then that a summoning for Cleef, Ankha, and Parzival along with some owls with medical knowledge was yelled. The burrowing owl let go of the Tyto and led her out to the medical area, she would be safer there.
The two burrowing owls and Parzival flew up and landed next to a spotted owl who went by the name of Coliaby.
"Oh dear," said Cleef, noticing the horrid, twisted body that lay in front of him. Two medics arrived and began working vigorously to save the poor owl, Cleef helping as much and best as he could.

Ankha A bellowing cry summoned Ankha and her fellow guardians, with a final regard to Cleef, Ankha spread her wings and glided towards the source of the voice. She recognized the young Spotted owl immediately to be Coliaby, whom knelt beside the grotesque form of a Bay owl. One of the owl's wings was fractured, and bloodied feathers splayed out in all directions as the Bay owl's chest heaved and collapsed with every pained breath.
Ankha drew near to the owl; she was afraid that he would not be able to make it; she was not a medic, rather clumsy with these matters too, in fact, it terrified her to think that he was dying before her eyes and she could do nothing about it. Before Ankha had a moment to pause and compose herself, she felt hot tears stream from her eyes and form on her beak before plummeting down in droplets. She held out her leg and grasped the owl's talons in hers reassuringly, in hopes of comforting the owl as well as herself. The owls eyes were closed, but he turned his head slightly towards her and gave a meek smile.

A whisper trickled from his beak as Coliaby noticed warm salty tears flowing down her own face as well as Ankha's. "Thank...you..." the Bay owl wheezed out. With a sighing breath, Coliaby knew he had left for Glaumora. She shook with grief. Parzival put his wing over her shoulder. "I didn't even know his name!" she sobbed. It was the first time anyone had died while Coliaby had found them. Bending close, she slid the Bay's eyelids closed with a talon and whistled a soft tune, not very long, used in Ambala as a song meaning goodbye. She lifted off and went in search of more owls, unable to stay by the dead owl's side.

Cleef could feel the fatally wounded owl's life leave with his last breath. The burrowing owl straightened up the deceased body, made sure the bay owl's eyes were closed, and bowed his head while uttering a silent prayer in respect.
Cleef's head lifted with his wet eyes open. He turned to Ankha, who was, after realizing that she too should pay her respects, standing next to Cleef. The burrowing owl wrapped his wing around the other and pulled her close in comfort from this horrible happening.
"It is normal, Ankha, that an owl should die," said Cleef," Hopefully it isn't painful or brutal, but peaceful and calm. This owl was unfortunate and got killed by a natural disaster, but it happens. He died in the comfort of kindhearted owls, and I am positive that he is in a better place, away from the troubles of this world."
Cleef looked up to the Forest Kingdom of Tyto that was around them. "We should continue searching. There may be more owls in need of our aid, not to mention that we have a particular male Barn Owl to search for. We'll continue when you are ready."
Cleef let go of Ankha and stepped away. He waited for Ankha to finish her respects.

Ankha Ankha felt the warm embrace as Cleef spoke with calming words, they penetrated her sorrow. She knelt beside the deceased owl, his feathers stained with blood from his crippling wounds. "Sleep tight." she whispered and with a final moment of nodpule for the owl, straightened herself up and nodded slightly.
"Thank you Cleef." she smiled meekly. "This isn't the first soul that has been lost in my time as a ryb. Things happen. I just sometimes wish they wouldn't." Ankha sighed and cast a final glance towards Cleef. She felt a stirring in her gizzard as her wingbeats thrusted her upwards and she arose from the ground with him at her side, a feeling she had never felt grow so strong. Was this love?
She was soon maneuvering between the many branches that stretched from the grove of trees, their leaves rustling with the wind. Her tail feathers shifting in time with the breeze. Her eyes scanned the ground near fallen trees for a sign of the male Barn owl they had been asked to search for. Moments fled quickly and the Burrowing owl was beginning to lose hope that he was still alive but as she prepared to halt her vigil and return to campus, the corner of her eye caught a glimpse of movement.
Lying in a patch of ferns lay a Barn owl, his wings bleeding badly and he appeared to be in immense pain, yet he continued to give a hoarse cry for help every few seconds. She lighted down beside him. "Don't worry, we'll take you to our medics." she informed him.
"Is my mate alright?" he rasped. "Yes she is fine." Ankha had decided it was best not to inform him immediately of how his eggs had been destroyed in the quake. She felt he needed to rest before he could handle such grief.

Coliaby lit down by a female Masked Owl and lifted her head, listening for breathing. "Thank Glaux." she muttered. The owl was alive. Beside her lay an owlet. he was knocked out but alive. The female had only a scratch on her port wing.

Cleef flew beside Ankha, his eyes, too, scanning for the Barn Owl and any other owl's out there who needed help. He felt a feeling in his gizzard, one that was always there and always full, but as he flew beside Ankha, it seemed to fill him and all his feathers. It also seemed to bring forth a slight nervous heat flash. Could owls sweat? He sure hoped not, that would be extremely embarrassing because he knew what this feeling was.
It was love, the feeling was always within Cleef and showing, but it seemed to swell around Ankha for some reason, and Cleef had no idea how to explain it to her, which he wanted to do. With the fact being pondered over in his head, he feared it would get in the way of what needed to be done as of now, so Cleef tried to focus and succeeded in suppressing the thought a little bit. Just a little bit.
"Help," came a voice. Both Ankha and Cleef adjusted their flight direction towards the voice. They came upon an injured owl. An injured, male, Barn Owl.
Both burrowing owls alighted down next to the injured owl. He asked if his mate was okay and Ankha reassured him that she was. This reassurance seemed to give the owl more strength. Cleef felt bad about the knowledge they were still withholding from him.
Both burrowing owls picked up the Barn Owl and flew him gently to the medical camp where he would be tended to. All the way there, Cleef was blushing under his feathers has his wing would occasionally skim Ankha's.

Ankha Ankha glided, feathered wings staggering slightly in flight, flying had never been her strong suit. The burrowing owls flew alongside eachother in silence; nothing between them except for the brief moments when her wing would meet with his and they would quickly pull away, blushing.
She felt emotions welling up inside of her; she was always the shy one, the one who barely had any real friends among a sea of acquaintances. Love was not new to her, but it had never felt so strong. What if he did not feel the same way? She desperately wanted to tell him how she felt but she had no idea how. She sighed and expelled these thoughts, but it still lingered in the back of her mind. Their deed had been completed, the lost souls that they could not save was a constant reminder how unpredictable life could be. How quickly something so small could alter your life forever.
It was time that they returned home; but then what would happen between them? Cleef was a traveler and Ankha was rooted with the Tree, a ryb. Would she have to decide between her life and her love? She hoped not. Her wings once more glanced Cleef's feathers and with a meek smile she veered away, her cheeks blushing a vibrant red beneath her feathers. "Cleef." she said quietly. She had no idea what she would say next to him but she could feel the words forming on her tongue. She closed her eyes and hoped for the best.

Coliaby gently lifted the Masked owl to the medic station and looked at the sky. The sun would rise soon and they needed to get to the Great Tree. Parzival blushed as the beautiful Spotted Owl soared over him, the last rays of the moon illuminating her spots perfectly. Coliaby flew forward, but banked as an agonising cry split the night. The source was nowhere to be seen.

Cleef and Ankha arrived at the temporary medical station set up by the Guardians in an opening within the forest with the injured Barn Owl.
"You'll be okay now, Tyto, you're in good talons. We will do everything in our powers to help your injuries," Cleef said to the owl.
"My mate," said the Barn Owl.
As he said that the female Barn Owl appeared next to Cleef and began preening her mate's feathers. As she did so, Cleef began working next to the Guardian medics to help the wounded owls.

Ankha Ankha stepped away quietly and allowed the medics to go about their work; watching as Cleef went to lend a talon. She turned to face her fellow owls that had accompanied her on this rescue mission; Cleef and Coliaby, Parzival, all the medics and the advanced members of her chaw. "Good work everyone, many lives were saved by your digilence today and that is something to be proud of." she announced, a smile crossed her beak.
"We will be leaving to return to the Tree in a few minutes so medics, if you could please ready the stretchers for any injured owls that would be great." the medics all nodded and began to ease owls into their stretchers. "My chaw will by flying alongside me."
Ankha excused herself from the crowd and approached the Spooted owl named Coliaby. "Thank you for your efforts, Coliaby." the Burrowing owl said courteously. She ruffled her feathers slightly and prrened afew feathers into place before approaching Cleef timidly. "Great job out there." she blushed and shifted her weight from talon to talon.
