(Sorry about that Spice and it's quite alright Gabjas! Good posts take a while to make!) Keenai's distress settled as the Fish Owl guided her out of the room that was quickly filling with the haunting song. As they walked down the corridors again, she kept very close to Claudius. Being alone for such a long time and without family, the young owlet had grown fond of him very quickly and thought of him like a father. He was her only friend here and she needed someone to talk to, to trust and just someone to be there for her. When they stepped out into the cool night air, all her troubled thoughts disappeared. Looking up, Keenai's eyes grew wide with both excitement and wonder. "The stars!" She chirped happily, bouncing forward to see the sky more clearly, "I can see the stars!" The Elf owlet kept her eyes glued to the night sky as she went through all the star's names she could remember. Although this was a happy moment of freedom for her, she couldn't help but feel sad. She only knew these stars because of her father, and now he was gone and she might never see him again. He was probably still alive, but that didn't matter. She was still stuck here. Forever.

Claudius Claude shuddered slightly as a cold wind snaked through his feathers, chilling him to the bone. The Lieutenant smiled as the owlet's face lit up at the sight of the dancing stars, a celestial waltz in the night sky. "Keenai, may I ask you something?" Claudius began, peering up at the sliver of moon that hung above.
The old Fish owl felt his words catch in his throat, as if he were choking on his own voice. He knew that Keenai would grow up one day. And when she did, would she stay as his friend? He managed a quiet,"Will you ever leave?", trying his best to mask the tremor in his voice.

"Will you ever leave?"
Keenai turned to face Claudius, "Well..." She began, but she found she had no words. She used to want to leave, to fly away and never look back. To finally be free without these rules and horrible memories of her past. But now, with Claudius as a new found friend, she wasn't so sure. When she looked at the stars she felt the desire to get away from here and leave it behind along with her past, but when she was with the old Fish owl, she had the need to stay and be this owl's friend. To put aside everything terrible that happened and just stay.
"No," She finally said, walking towards the old owl, "I won't leave." Keenai smiled and turned to face the stars again, the need to be out there slowly fading away.

(may I invite you two to rp in Elf Owl, Elf Owl? It would be nice for Keenai to meet Camira.)

Claudius Claudius breathed a deep sigh of relief, perhaps his only friend would not vanish one day. As she had promised, would she stay forever? He tilted his head up, craning his old neck to peer at the vast array or twinkling stars. "Hmm." he said, nodding slightly at the display.
He turned his one good eye on Keenai, while the other blank one remained fixed upwards. "You know, Keenai. When I was your age, I didn't have a family to go back to. They were reported dead within mere nights of my arrival here, and I had been much to young to understand anyway."
"But Keenai, you might. Your family may still be out there, searching for you. Waiting for you. I don't want... I just don't want you to waste that on your sympathy for this sack of old bones." he churred slightly at his own age, how quickly the moons had fled in this prison of memories. A confinement that he had chosen to remain in for over sixty moons.
"I guess you can say that I want what is best for you."

The stars continued to shine brightly as Keenai thought of her family once again, "They may be looking for me... And I do miss them," she sighed, huddling down against the chilly breeze that blew against her, "But, what if they think I'm dead? It's been over 12 moons since I left," tears pricked her eyes, "They've probably forgotten about me..."
Keenai blinked away the tears which were blurring her vision, turning to face the old owl, "You're pretty much all I have left."
(I will join that thread, MysteryStar, just not yet as I need to finish a couple of threads I'm already in... Don't want too many going at the same time, you know?)

Claudius ruffled his feathers, casting a shimmer of rusty hued feathers along his spine. The Fish owl turned to Keenai with a frown and shook his head. "Keenai, they may have given up on finding you..." he began, a talon pressed up against her chest where her heart was.
"But that does not mean they have forgotten you. Families... never forget you." he murmured. He placed a wing gently at her back, sheltering her from a strong gust of wind. "And if I am all you have left, then remember, you will always have a family here with me."
"Now, come. It is getting late, time for sleep."

The Elf owlet smiled, gazing up at Claudius. In the little time they had spent together, the old owl had become a father to her and she didn't want to leave him anytime soon.
"I am getting quite tired..." Her beak opened wide as a yawn escaped and she blinked, trying to keep her sleepy eyes from closing. Keenai stretched her wings out, turning around and smiling at Claudius before heading down the corridor towards the Fish owls room.
